WPT to Return to Montreal Twice in 2013

The Montreal leg of the World Poker Tour (WPT) of 2012, an event sponsored by PartyPoker.net, which was held in Nov 2012 at Playground Poker Club, Montreal, was a roaring success. The success of the event encouraged the organizers to plan another edition of the event in 2013, at the same venue. The most interesting thing about the Montreal leg of WPT 2013 would be that the event will return to Montreal twice, not once.

The Playground Poker Club of Montreal will host the WPT Canadian Spring Championship between May 3 and May 9 and the WPT Montreal between Nov 29 and Dec 5. Needless to say, both events will be sponsored by PartyPoker.net.

Each event will be part of the WPT, and players who achieve great feats will be rewarded with life-transforming cash prizes and Card Player Player of the Year (POY) Points. The winners of each event will be honored by Playground Poker Club with the WPT Champions Cup and a unique championship belt. The event of May, the WPT Canadian Spring Championship, will be a CAD$3k plus $300 event, which will be shown live on TV. The Main Event of the November event, which will have a CAD $3,500 plus $350 buy-in will also get live television coverage.

The WPT and the Playground Poker Club are yet to finalize the entire schedule. A few exciting events, such as a high rollers’ special might be added to the schedule in Nov 2013 and might get live TV coverage. This high roller event is expected to attract top poker players from all over the world.

Back in 2012, the WPT Montreal event, sponsored by PartyPoker.net, attracted a huge field of professional poker players and celebrities from all over the world. A list of the prestigious people who took part in the event includes Phil Laak, Antonio Esfandiari, Gavin Smith, Daniel Negreanu, David Williams, Isabelle Mercier, Phil Kessel, Jeff Gross, and Guy Carbonneau.

The official sponsor of the Montreal leg of the WPT is PartyPoker.net, which will run a wide range of qualifiers, freerolls, and satellites to help online poker players qualify for both the WPT Montreal and the WPT Canadian Spring Championship. Recently, Playground Poker Club and PartyPoker.net got into an agreement, according to the terms of which, both parties would raise funds for Montreal’s youth hockey teams through the Hat Trick Series, an event that will be promoted as one of the largest charitable poker events in Canada. The funds will also be used to conduct research on breast cancer at McGill University.

Players, who are interested in taking part in this event and want to view the complete schedule, only have to visit www.PlaygroundPoker.ca. Alternatively, they can email their queries to [email protected].
